[GT Navs] Navs Weekly email

Colleagues,

Nav Night this week (Tuesday 8PM) will be held in room 301.  I look forward  to seeing all of your smiling faces there.

Time for the annual Christmas Party to lighten the end of the semester mood! For those who have never been, we always have a White Elephant Gift Exchange (max $10) and the food is split up by bible studies.

Also this is a semi-formal event! So guys that means suit and tie for you (since when has that been "semi-formal") and dresses for the ladies!

Food is split up by Bible studies as such:

Raina and Mohini - Casseroles and side dishes
Haley and Kayla - Desserts
Casey and Scott - Paper products
Max and Ryan - Drinks
Katie O. and Hannah - Fruit
Dylan and David F. - Utensils
Lauren - Salads
Drew and Rob - Bread

You should talk with everyone in your Bible study to coordinate exactly how you want to divide up your food responsibilities - have fun cooking/shopping

The location of the festivities is Amber Bailey's house (2440 Sugarloaf Club Drive Duluth, GA 30097).  Be sure to thank her and her family for opening their house up to us.

If you want more information (and to RSVP) go to the facebook page here

A big thanks to Alexa for organizing this for us all

Keep on keeping on this week guys if you need some inspiration look at this owl

This parable is kind of long but I would encourage you all to read it, God has been putting it on my heart this week
Luke 15:11-32

Jesus continued: "There was a man who had two sons. The younger one said to his father, 'Father, give me my share of the estate.' So he divided his property between them.

"Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need. So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs.  He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything.

"When he came to his senses, he said, 'How many of my father's hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you.  I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.' So he got up and went to his father.

"But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.

"The son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.'

"But the father said to his servants, 'Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let's have a feast and celebrate.  For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.' So they began to celebrate.

"Meanwhile, the older son was in the field. When he came near the house, he heard music and dancing. So he called one of the servants and asked him what was going on. 'Your brother has come,' he replied, 'and your father has killed the fattened calf because he has him back safe and sound.'

"The older brother became angry and refused to go in. So his father went out and pleaded with him. But he answered his father, 'Look! All these years I've been slaving for you and never disobeyed your orders. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends. But when this son of yours who has squandered your property with prostitutes comes home, you kill the fattened calf for him!'

"'My son,' the father said, 'you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.'"

Two things I ask of you, Lord;

 Keep falsehood and lies far from me;
give me neither poverty nor riches,

Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you

Or I may become poor and steal,

[GT Navs] Weekly Navigators Email

Hello there friends,

Be excited about Fall Conference which is going to be on Friday October 12 and will go until Sunday October 14th. This is an exciting event where we get to go be with other campus from the Blue Ridge Region and really dive into God's Word.

Norm Hubbard will be speaking on discipleship and what it really means to "leave a legacy".

The conference is $125 until October 2nd when it will increase to $140. In order to register for the conference go to the this link and proceed. If for some reason you cannot pay via credit/debit card then please talk to Lauren (50 dollar discount for freshmen).

Nav Night will be at 8PM in Room 343 again this week. Please take note of the room change - it is where we met the first week in the student center!

The old campus minister of Navigators will be speaking, Donnie Hoover.

Joel is working on putting together a weekly prayer meeting for anyone who is interested. It would basically involve getting together somewhere on campus and just praying together for 30 minutes to an hour about whatever we feel led to pray about. If you think you would come, just fill out this survey so he will know when most people are available.

I hope everyone has a joyous week, here is a picture of Ryan Youngblood walking his cat

[GT Navs] Important Navigator Information

My most highly esteemed brethren,

There are a couple things coming up this week

First is prayer and worship nav night at the Campanile/free speech area starting Tuesday at 8PM.  I look forward to seeing you all there as the best of times shall be had by all.

Second, the deadline to sign up for the camping trip is MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 3RD, and a $20 deposit is due then. Give your money and RSVP (including whether or not you want to go rafting or just camping) to Hannah or Ryan by then! If you need to find Hannah, her number is (706)461-1177, and her email is hannah_earle1523@bellsouth.net.

Also, be thinking about what intramurals you would like to play.  Ryan is the man to talk to about intramurals.  We are having a Frisbee team and a two volleyball teams (one co-ed and one normal).  Sunday should be the day for volleyball and frisbee.  Wednesday will also be a volleyball night.  Ryan will have more details for us tomorrow night after the registration time.

I hope all of you have had a restful weekend and have a great week!

I also thought I would share a verse with all of you that I read this week and thought was really applicable to a lot of us this week
Mark 10:45:  For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.

[GT Navs] Correction

Most humble apologies comrades,

I was mistaken when I said that the cookout would be at the nav house.  It will instead be at the Campanile from 7:30 to 9:30

Again I apologize for the confusion,

[GT Navs] Welcome Back

Greetings and salutations friends,

I hope everyone had a fabulous summer that was filled with rest and the Holy Spirit.  I can't wait to see everyone and hear about your summers.

We have some events going on this first week of school that I would encourage everyone to take part in

Monday night  (tonight) we have burritos and board games at the Moe's in tech square at 5 PM.   Basically this event is what it says, burritos and then go play board games.  Here is the link for the event on facebook if you are interested in more information.

Tuesday night from 7:30 to 9:30 is the nav fall cookout.  This is basically a time to get together in fellowship and have great food over at the nav house.  Here is the link for the event on facebook if you are interested in more information.

We will start up nav nights like normal next Tuesday night in the stud center.

Be praying for this upcoming year and all of the new freshmen here on campus now that they would get plugged in.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to let me know.

Thanks friends!

[GT Navs] Encouragement to keep pressing on

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to send out one last email before I pass on my duties as communications coordinator to Max. As you go into finals, remember that Christ has called us into a life of peace. Remember 1 Peter 5:7 which says, "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you" and Philippians 4:6-7 which says, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus."

Remember that your identity is not in the grades you make or what your professors says is a job well done. We are all sons and daughters of the King of the universe. Dwell in that and do not let the world define you; do not conform any longer to the pattern of Georgia Tech. Our Father sacrificed is only Son for YOU. He didn't do it so that you would get good grades or that you could get an awesome co-op. Christ died to bring us to God and to give the Father glory.

In all of your studying, test taking, and packing, give the glory to God. Honor him with your work, the first fruits of your labor and you will be blessed. Trust Him as your Provider who will give you everything you need to accomplish HIS goals for you life. He may not give you what you want but in all of this but he teaches us to be dependent on him for what we NEED. Have a wonderful summer and if you are gonna be around, be looking forward to the awesome bible studies happening and other such fun events.

Love you guys and make sure to read Max's emails next year :)

[GT Navs] Nav Weekly News 3.26.12

Hello Everyone!

I hope everyone had a great spring break and was able to relax and rest in God's presence. For those who came on the Nav spring break trip, I thank you for having a servants heart while we were there and for a wonderful time!

Mocktail is THIS  Friday, March 30, at 8 PMPlease bring $5 to Nav Nite for your ticket! Can't wait to see you guys there! Also this is how it works:

Go to dinner beforehand with your friends. There are lots of places on West Peachtree that are good to go to. Then come to the Academy of Medicine which is on West Peachtree. There will NOT be available parking there so this is what I recommend to do. Please park in the parking deck that is where the Publix and parking for those restaurants are and walk over. It is not that far of a walk even for girls in heels.

Remember that is is a semi-formal event so please dress up. Guys break out your suits and ties and Ladies show up in your cutest dress. Also YOU DO NOT NEED A DATE for this event. I have heard that a lot of people have been confused about this but traditionally no one brings a date unless you are actually dating them on a regular basis. Ha ha .

Prayer Meeting will be on Mondays at 10 AM and Wednesdays at 1 PM. They will be located outside the STAC major lounge that is on the third floor in Skiles. If you have no idea where that is please call Drew Martin at            (678)-571-2530        and he will be happy to give you directions!

[GT Navs] GT Students for Pro life

Thank you so much for allowing us to make an announcement at Navigators! It is truly a blessing you are open to us sharing a little about our group and prolife cause. We are really excited to have more faithful Christians join us on Monday and hopefully beyond.

Is being PRO-LIFE just a Christian or personal conviction?
Georgia Tech Students for Life is inviting all members of Cru to join them for a special event on Monday March 12.   Meet and have dinner with other Georgia Tech Students for Life members as we discuss how abortion is a fundamental moral wrong to all human persons and how every single person need not have any fears about publicly standing up for life.  We will be watching a short documentary called 180 that shows hearts and minds several types of people being changed about abortion.  Get connected with Georgia Tech Students for Life and know where to find great pro-life resources on campus. Room 332 in the third floor of the Student Center at 7:30 PM.  Food will be provided.

[GT Navs] Spring Break 2012

SPRING BREAK 2012 - NEW ORLEANS
Hey guys! Spring Break 2012 with the Navigators is going to be March 18th-23rd. The first spring break deposit is due this Wednesday, 2/22, at NavNight. To make decision-making and talking to parents easier, here's some information you may need!

What are we doing?
We are going down to New Orleans for some awesome service projects and fellowship! We will be staying at Camp Restore: http://www.camprestore.org/. Camp Restore partners with over 60 nonprofit organizations in the area, and will provide us the opportunity to serve the people of New Orleans through construction and community projects. They offer dormitory accommodations, 3 meals a day, and project coordination while we are there. We will be at Camp Restore for 4 days - 2 days of service, and 2 days of rest and fun in New Orleans. This could include seafood, jazz, swing dancing, frisbee, shopping, or nature - so come prepared!

What is the cost?
The total cost of the trip is $240. This covers lodging at Camp Restore, food while we are in New Orleans, gas for your driver, and some activities. You will need to pay for your meals on the way to and from New Orleans.

Payment Schedule:
$50 due by this Wednesday, 2/22
$100 due 2/29
$90 due 3/14

How can I make the cost cheaper?
Fundraising: The Experts Bench has offered to do a Sales Appointment Blitz Fundraising Event. Please email Chelsea Bailey (cbailey32@gatech.edu) for further details and to sign up for a shift. If you do not need fundraising, you can also volunteer your time to raise money for others.

Scholarships: If the cost is a major issue for you, please ask about scholarships. The amount available will be determined by donations we receive and the number of individuals in need. We ask that you also participate in fund-raising if you plan on applying for a trip scholarship. Please contact Chelsea Bailey (cbailey32@gatech.edu) if you are interested.
~Freshmen will be given a $50 scholarship~

Driving: If you are interested in driving, you will get a $25 overall trip discount plus have your gas paid for. Please let us know if you would like to drive as soon as possible.
