[GT Navs] Nav Spring Break Trip Information

Hello everyone!

The first Spring Break deposit is due on Feb. 3rd. That's coming up soon, so NOW is the time to talk to parents and decide if you want to come to Colorado with the Navigators for Spring Break. To make decision-making and talking to parents easier, all the information you will need is below.

________

What are we doing on Spring Break?

We are road-tripping to Colorado. We will leave Friday, March 18th at 6pm from Tech and stay at a hotel that night. We will drive through Saturday and arrive at Glen Eyrie in Colorado Springs on Saturday night.

Glen Eyrie is the Navigators Headquarters in Colorado Springs (it's actually a castle!). During our two days there, we will be hearing from local Navigator speakers and enjoying the beautiful outdoors. Many hiking trails are available right on the property.

After two days at Glen Eyrie, we will be skiing at Copper Mountain. Skiing is optional. We will be staying in condos near the slopes. For those who choose not to ski, there will be other attractions and activities available in the area including ice skating, free snowshoeing, tubing, shopping, or just relaxing in the beautiful mountains.

We will leave Copper Mountain on Thursday, March 24th to start heading back to Atlanta. We will stay at a hotel that night, and arrive back at Georgia Tech on Friday at about 6:30pm.

What is the cost?

The cost of the trip is $330. This price covers all lodging, food while we're in Colorado, van rental, and gas.

Skiing will be approximately $90 per day. Skiing is paid for by individuals and is not covered in the $330. Prices will vary based on ski/snowboard preferences, lessons, and how much skiing each person prefers.

The Price does not include meals on the road (March 19th [b,l,d], March 24th [b,l,d], and March 25th [b,l]). This is because preferences will make costs vary significantly. Please plan ahead and bring appropriate spending money for meals. We will stop at fast food restaurants, so many value options are available. If you are on a tight budget, you can consider packing your own food for meals.

How can I make the cost cheaper?

Fundraising: We are trying to provide a few fundraising options for Spring Break. If you have ideas, please let us know.
  • The Experts Bench has offered to do a Sales Appointment Blitz Fundraising Event. You can sign up for 3-hour shifts and make $50 per shift towards the trip! Shifts are available at 5-8pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays between January 31st and February 16th. If possible, please sign up for more than one shift. Please email Paige Brannon (pbrannon@gatech.edu) if you would like to sign up for one of these shifts. Please email me (cbailey32@gatech.edu) if you have any questions. If you do not need fundraising, you can also volunteer your time to raise money for others.
Scholarships: If the cost is a major issue for you, please ask about scholarships. The amount available for scholarships will be determined by the amount of donations we receive and the number of individuals needing scholarships. We ask that you also participate in fund-raising if you plan on applying for a trip scholarship. Please contact Erin Randalow (erinrandalow@gatech.edu) if you are interested.

Cars: If you provide a car that we can take to Colorado, we will take $100 off of your trip cost. We are making transportation decisions now, so if you are interested in this, please let us know as soon as possible.

What is the payment schedule?

$100 is due when you sign up by Thursday, February 3rd.

$100 is due by Thursday, February 17th.

The remaining portion is due by Thursday, March 3rd.

*There will be a $20 fee for late payments*

_______

We hope that you consider coming with us on Spring Break this year. It's going to be a really great time of fun, fellowship, teaching, and enjoying the beautiful mountains. If money is an issue, please look into our fund-raising and scholarship options.

If you have any other questions, I will try my very best to answer them. Email me at cbailey32@gatech.edu

Have a great day!
