[navs-main] NavNews 1/12/10

Hey Guys!

Welcome back from the break! I hope that everyone had a fantastic and restful break is ready for a new semester! We're starting off things quickly, so take note of these upcoming events!

  • Our first NavNite of the semester will be this Thursday from 8-10pm in Student Center Room 343! Be there or be square!
  • The MLK Retreat is this weekend! We'll be leaving Tech at 7pm Friday, and will be hanging out with our friends from UGA in Dawsonville, Ga. There's going to be a great speaker, and it'll be a really refreshing way to start off the semester. We'll be getting back Sunday afternoon. If you want to go, please email Josh Harkey (harkey@gatech.edu).
  • Keep your calendar marked for Spring Break! We'll be heading to Hilton Head for some fun and relaxation.
As we are beginning a new semester, let us keep our eyes on Christ and model his attitude of humility, "Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death - even death on a cross!" -Philippians 2:5-8

Have a great first week back!

God came through and the details for the annual MLK retreat have finally been nailed down! Here they are!

When?
Begins Friday (January 15) evening at 7:00. (That's the first weekend after school starts back!!!)
We'll head home around lunchtime on Sunday.

Where?
The Promised Land Retreat
1519 Grizzle Road
Dawsonville, Georgia 30534
(a nice little place all to our own! it's about 40 miles north of Atlanta)

Who?
1)YOU! You have no reason not to come, because it's the beginning of the semester (seriously, you don't have THAT much work yet), we get Monday off (so even if you have stuff to do, you've got a whole day to do it on), and you just had a MONTH off from school (so there's no reason to go home or anywhere else!).

2)Our friends from UGA will be there as well! If you're not friends with them yet, you will be. (Col 3:11) ;)

3)And of course, we'll be hosting an awesome speaker...

Speaker?
Gary Ockwell, an engineer who loves teaching how the Old Testament truly does relate to the New Testament. He will help us better understand their correlation.

Food?
Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided on Saturday, as well as breakfast on Sunday.

Cost?
Only $50 + gas for your driver!

What to bring?
mandatory:
-yourself!
-a few bucks to help your driver with gas
-Bible, journal(paper), pen/pencil
-sheets, blankets, pillow and a towel
optional:
-football, frisbee, etc
-card games, boardgames, etc

What should you do NOW?
1) If you're interested EMAIL ME (HARKEY@GATECH.EDU) WHEN YOU GET THIS. (DO NOT HIT REPLY, I don't believe it will work and then you'll get left out!) As I'm sure you've heard a million times, this is the weekend after school starts back! So we need to get things going! We'll be collecting money from everyone during the week school starts back.

2) Mark off 1/15 through 1/17 on your calendar.

3) Invite a friend!
