[GT Navs] Christmas Reminders
I wanted to remind you of our Christmas Blessing/Challenge! If you would like to participate, read through Luke and memorize Matthew 6:25-34 or Luke 12:22-34 over the break. It's not always easy to be consistent in the Word over the break, but take this challenge and keep your eyes on Christ! :-)
Also, I wanted to give you a heads up about our Spring Break Trip. This spring, we're trying to go to Colorado! We would spend a couple days hearing from speakers at Glen Eyrie in Colorado Springs (the Navigator headquarters/castle) and then spend a few days skiing. In the past, the trip has been pretty sweet. Its not set in stone yet, but we're trying to make it happen. You may want to start talking to your parents about it and saving up now, though, because it is a little pricier trip. In the past, it was about $400. We'll be looking for fundraising opportunities in the spring that can offset some of the costs.
"And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger." -Luke 2:8-12
Hope you're having a great and restful break!

[GT Navs] House Dinner Tonight (Tuesday)
Hey all!
Well, the important news is that Christ is King. Just in case anyone had let that slip their minds. Also, we are a chosen people, undeserving but called to a seat of high honor and invited to be part of God's royal family and to dwell in his presence. We've been privileged to partner with God in whispering the best news ever heard and to step into good works that have been perfectly fashioned for us to grow, learn and encounter success. Its his intention to draw out the gifts and strengths he's put inside of us and to impart wisdom and build character -- to make us more like himself -- an activity he promises to keep up till the job's perfected.
Secondary news: Tomorrow, Tuesday the 14th, I will be cooking house dinner again at the Pirate House! We are having beef stroganoff again as it was very popular last time. Meal should be ready at 6:30pm. I will need some help with salad and bread etc from a few folks, too, if anyone can come early.
Let me know if you can come (330-212-8336 or email) so I can prepare enough!!!
If its super cold and you need a ride, too, let me know -- hopefully some of the Arrr Pirates will be there to drive! Also I invited some other friends so it's a good time to meet new people.
Good luck with finals!!!

[GT Navs] Dinner Tonight
Our speaker at NavNite tonight is Justin Hester from UGA. Before moving down this year to restart things in Athens, Justin was the campus director for the Penn State Navs. He had an excellent workshop at Fall Conference that I went to, so I'm sure he'll have great things to share tonight.
Justin and I will be eating dinner tonight in the food court (2nd floor) and you're all invited to join us. We'll be there at 6:00, if you want to come just show up!
Hope to see you then

[GT Navs] Purity Groups
If you did NOT just get my email about purity groups, but you DO want to be part of one, send me an email! (harkey@gatech.edu)
Do this sooner rather than later because (a) I might need some information from you and (b) you have homework (awesome homework) to do in preparation for the first PG meetings next week.
On the other hand, if you have no clue what I'm talking about...
We are starting up a few accountability/discussion groups on the topic of sexual purity. Basically it will generally involve reading a page or two of text/scripture, answering some questions, then showing up to a 30 min to 1 hour weekly meeting, to discuss that weeks topic and share life with some other awesome men.
I imagine it will take a few weeks before we really begin diving DEEP into the issues and into each others lives... Therefore, I encourage you to check it out now! NOW is a good time to see what it's all about, to see if you can fit it into your schedule, to see if it's something you could really use, etc. Even if sexual purity isn't some huge issue for you, I encourage you to check it out!
So let me know if you (a) want to be part of a PG but didn't get my email or (b) want more information!
God bless...

"But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith. I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead."

[GT Navs] Prayer Chain
This is your reminder to sign up for the prayer chain. There is NO better way to start off a new semester than by dedicating it to God and asking him to work: in our lives, in our friends' lives, and in our classmates' lives. We cannot expect God to do anything if we don't ask first! Remember John 16:24- "Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask, and you will receive, and your joy will be complete." Prayer is SO important! I love the way Osawald Chambers said it: "Prayer does not fit us for the greater work; prayer is the greater work."
We still have spots left, and it's going to be awesome so you don't want to miss out. If you missed the original email, we're basically going to be praying for 24 straight hours as a ministry. Each person takes one hour to pray over the course of the day- in this case the first day of classes (Monday, August 23). All you have to do is put your name down. Most of the time slots we have left are during the day on Monday- the slightly more difficult middle-of-the-night time slots have all been filled.
Go here to sign up: https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AmrdmWJuei6NdDRnWHpWa1dEbnI3blVCcU83dTFHanc&hl=en#gid=0
If you've never spent an hour in prayer with God, then get ready to have your mind blown! That's like only taking naps your entire life and then realizing for the first time that you can get a full nights sleep. :) If the idea scares you, just let me know- all you need is a little bit of direction. Trust me, by the end you won't want to stop!
Let me, Erin, or Jason know if you have any questions!

I am writing because we are going to start a 24-hour prayer chain (where we all pray in one hour shifts) on the first day of classes! We can plan, set goals, hope for good grades, and try to influence people but if we don't invite the Lord into our plans we are bound to be exhausted and frustrated. Let's start off this school year unified together as gt navs, beseeching the Lord and asking for His grace, His strength, and His Spirit to reign through our lives. The Lord has given us so much; so let's sacrifice this hour of our time to be with Him.
Here's how it works. We're going to pray in hour increments so a different person prays every hour, and by the end of the day we, as a ministry, will have prayed for 24 hours non-stop! You sign up by going Here and putting your name next to the hour that you would like to spend in prayer during the first day of school (so don't plan to do it while you're in class), once you type in your name, make sure you save the document (very important). Then during that time on Monday, August 23rd, pray during that hour. You can do this wherever you want that is quiet: in your room, outside, your hall lounge, wherever (but probably not in your bed!). And it sounds silly, but some of the best times to pray are really early in the morning, there's something special about being alone with God when everyone else is asleep.
Now some of you are like "Whoa Erin! An hour is a long time to pray! That's like two episodes of Degrassi! Or over half a soccer game!" An hour can seem like an intimidating amount of time to spend in prayer, but if it is broken down into increments then it's not as scary sounding. I have attached two suggested formats of spending an hour in prayer that will lead you through things to do or things to specifically pray for that will make your time with God flow more easily. Certainly you can break your time down however you want, but if you would like some guidance these should help! I encourage you to try it out, even if it makes you nervous, nobody grows if they're comfortable!
Don't put off signing up or you'll forget! Do it right now while you're thinking about it. It takes two seconds and then you're guaranteed some wonderful fellowship time with the Lord before we dive head on back into school!
This is going to be awesome but we have to be in this together!
I love you all and miss your smiling faces!
You're sister,
Erin

[navs-main] Last NavNews of the Year! 5/4/10
The annual Pig Roast will be this Saturday at 2:00pm! Come on by to the Nav House for a end-of-semester celebration! An official invitation is attached.
If you're not going to be around this summer, I hope it's a great one! Continue to take time for God and dig into His word even though your same support group may not be around. We'll look forward to seeing you all next year when we kick off. Don't forget about the rafting trip that will come up quickly next semester!
" For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light." -Colossians 1:9-12
Have a great summer and good luck with the rest of your finals!

Hope you're enjoying Dead Week! ;-)
"Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching." -Hebrews 10:19-25
Have a great week!

Just three more weeks! Keep it up!
"Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father? If you are not disciplined (and everyone undergoes discipline), then you are illegitimate children and not true sons. Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of our spirits and live! Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness. No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it." -Hebrews 12:7-11
Have a great week!

Summer 2010
"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart."
